Hello. My name is Matthew JLD Rice. This is my website.
PREPARE YOURSELF...
In short, this is my PORTFOLIO. I feel that these pieces of artwork best represent what I am capable of and the genres with which I am familiar. I am not one to be pigeon-holed into one set category, rather, I would like to work throughout a very wide artistic spectrum. I do realize, however, that I do have certain limitations within my work (I.E.: Drawing automobiles and architectural structures are NOT one of my favorite past-times and unfortunately it shows.), but I am ALWAYS up for a good challenge. So if I don’t know how to draw something and I need to, I’ll figure out a way how to.
As you become familiar with my work, you are sure to notice differences between projects. This encompasses all styles of illustration which I tend to vary between, including (but not limited to): Sketches, Black and White Ink work, Comic Book Pages, Comic Strips and Storyboards. As you will find, I work mainly in Black and White. Although it is true that I have harder time with color, it does not mean that it is completely beyond me. I just don’t yet have the time to really delve that deeply into color mediums, what with all this other crap currently on my plate. Crap that you all can catch a glimpse of here: FOR FREE!!!
You will also be seeing samplings of various film and video projects that have been worked upon, not only by myself, but with my friends and/or cousins: My Partners In Crime. They are (in no specific order): Nate Sims, Andrew Moore, Andrew Makishima and Mike Merryman. Why do I mention these jokers in the first place? Well, quite honestly, without these folks most of the movie projects probably wouldn’t even exist. Not that I couldn’t come up with some of these ideas on my own, rather it is through the COMBINED blood, sweat and tears of them and myself that these projects came to be. I’m not here to take credit for the work of others, but rather to give all the props necessary for you, the viewing audience, to get curious about these guys too. In other words, we will all be helping to push each other along the way in a COMMUNITY effort... at least I hope it goes that way.
Enough blathering on my part. Get comfy, sit back and enjoy the ride...
